Fear & Greed: the market's mood in one number
The Crypto Fear & Greed Index condenses the market's mood into one number from 0 to 100. Cryptokly shows it with its source and reads it as context for the charts.
What it is
Prices are made by people, and people lean between caution and enthusiasm. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index puts that lean into one number from 0 to 100. Low values mean fear dominates the market, and high values mean greed does.
The index is published once a day by alternative.me, an independent provider. Cryptokly caches it on its own server and labels it "Source: alternative.me" wherever the number appears. It appears on the home page and on the live pages of crypto pairs. Tokenized stocks do not show it.
How the bands work
The index uses five bands.
- 0 to 24: Extreme Fear.
- 25 to 46: Fear.
- 47 to 54: Neutral.
- 55 to 75: Greed.
- 76 to 100: Extreme Greed.
The gauge carries the same state colours as the rest of the app, so the band is visible at a glance. The method that produces the number belongs to alternative.me, which combines several market measurements into one score and documents them on its site. Cryptokly does not compute or adjust it.

How to read it
Treat the number as the background mood. A Fear reading says that, across the market, caution is stronger than enthusiasm at the moment of the daily update. It does not say what price will do next, because moods can stay at an extreme for a long time and can turn quickly.
Mood and structure answer different questions. The index describes how the crowd feels; the trend, the zones and the RSI on the analysis card describe what the chart shows. Seeing both together gives context: a Down trend during Extreme Fear and a Down trend during Greed are different settings for the same chart.
The value updates daily, not with each candle. When the latest update is not available, the page shows the last value together with its date.
Compare it with Market Pulse
The two indicators sit side by side on the live page and measure different things. Fear & Greed is a third-party mood index for the whole crypto market. Market Pulse is Cryptokly's own count of how many of the top 50 USDT pairs have an Up or a Down trend on 1D and 4H. One reads sentiment, the other reads chart structure.
Common mistakes
- Reading it as a signal. It describes mood and never tells you what to do.
- Reading it as a forecast. Extreme readings can last, and a reading can move to another band within days.
- Using it alone. Without charts, the number lacks the context of structure and volatility.
- Ignoring the risk. Crypto trading carries a real risk of losing money, up to the whole amount invested, and nothing here is financial advice.
Questions
How often does the number change?
Once a day. Between updates the value on the page stays the same.
Is the index computed by Cryptokly?
No. alternative.me publishes it. Cryptokly caches it and shows the source next to the number.
Why does Neutral cover only 47 to 54?
The bands follow alternative.me. Neutral is the narrow middle between the Fear and Greed bands.
